ABOUT US

The Capitol Club is a non-partisan organization for CSN students, which is also open to any member of the public.

Our mission:

Enlighten students and the public about the actions, goals, and policies of the government and those who serve in it;

Educate people about the processes whereby each citizen can, and more importantly should, make a difference in the government and it’s activities;

Empower students and the public with the keys to organizing and mobilizing voters, groups and organizations to have their needs, views and interests not only heard, but understood, by those who serve them.

The Capitol Club will introduce students to the players in the fascinating and intriguing world of politics and public service. Meetings are held regularly and students are encouraged to participate in discussions and debates about current issues and events. Frequently, visitors to the meetings will share their perspectives and experiences in the world of politics and government. Recent visitors have included elected officials, interest group representatives, campaign consultants and members of the media.

Club members also raise funds throughout the year to aid in a variety of activities. Each year the club helps fund at least one trip to Washington, D.C. for members of the club and others who are interested in going. (On a number of occasions, the student government at CSN, the Student Senate, has agreed to match funds to permit more students to go and be participants in what, for many, is a life changing opportunity.) Other club activities have included bringing political speakers and authors to CSN to lecture the student body about government policies and their effects or to discuss upcoming elections.

Additionally, club members make contacts with elected officials and their staff, as well as the major political parties and their campaign operations. Students have managed to secure both paid and unpaid internships with organizations and elected officials, both in southern Nevada and in Washington, D.C. Such activities and opportunities enhance and strengthen the student’s educational journey and broadens their view of the political world in which we all live and function, and helps them further develop their career goals.

The Capitol Club welcomes any individuals who want to share their perspectives or learn about our systems of government and public service. There are no fees or dues for anyone to join or participate, so contact the club today. See the contact information in the left hand column.
